League Review ....

Sat  5th April 2008

The Premier Division League table shows little change this week with the only movement being brought about by Broxbourne Borough's loss of ten points. The penalty imposed through an irregularity relating to Broxbourne being a Limited Company and changes to that status that were not notified to the F.A.. Fortunately for Broxbourne, the loss is not very painful as it does nothing to jeopardise their mid-table position. The only positional change other than that came as Aylesbury Vale dropped three places after losing 4-0 at home to title hopefuls, Biggleswade Town. The Waders have had a great week where their two nearest rivals also dropped points in midweek. The league's top marksman, Dan Heron, set them on their way when he converted a 34th minute penalty. The second half saw the points safely pouched as Bradley Harrington, Chris Hewitt and Keith Thomas scored to put Biggleswade level on points at the top with Beaconsfield SYCOB. While Biggleswade were getting points under their belt, Beaconsfield were left frustrated at Tring when the Referee abandoned the game at half-time with Beaconsfield holding a 2-0 advantage. This completed a frustrating week for Beaconsfield after being held 1-1 at Oxhey Jets in midweek. Chalfont St. Peter were back to winning ways after seeing off the challenge of Brimsdown Rovers. Earlier in the week, Chalfont had to settle for a 3-3 draw with struggling Ruislip Manor. Ashley Taylor-Forbes gave Brimsdown a great start when scoring after eleven minutes. Chalfont's title hopes hinged on an essential three points and the prayers were answered as Jerome Okemo scored twice in the 3-1 win that keeps their ambitions alive. Hertford Town were also unable to prise more than a point from Ruislip Manor. Ryan Wade put Hertford in the driving seat before an own goal meant the points were to be shared. In the Colney derby it was Colney Heath that emerged as the winners as a hotly disputed goal was all that separated the teams. The loss for London Colney guarantees that they will finish at the bottom of the table. Dan O'Connor fired Cockfosters in front against Holmer Green with Danny Craggs levelling in the second half. Aaron Ewing put Cockfosters in front after 73 minutes only for Green to grab a point with Alvin Rajaman's successful spot kick. Broxbourne Borough put their admin problems behind them and grabbed a point with a 1-1 draw at Biggleswade United. The fourth draw of the afternoon came at Langford where Kingsbury London Tigers shared four goals. Leverstock Green halted Hanwell Town's impressive recent winning run with a 2-0 win at Pancake Lane. In the remaining game, St. Margaretsbury had a seemingly comfortable 3-1 win against Oxhey Jets.
In Division One, Kentish Town bounced back to claim top spot after their 2-0 win over previous leaders Hoddedon Town. Back in third place are Haringey Borough who maintained their challenge with a 3-0 win at Sun Postal Sports. Royston Town's challenge is not quite so threatening after a 2-1 defeat at home against Arlesey Athletic. Two of the other contenders were also in direct opposition as Stony Stratford Town edged home 3-2 against New Bradwell St. peter which effectively ends New Bradwell's dreams. But with only four points separating the top five the battle for promotion will go to the wire.
